Getting started

How do I open Brow?

Hover the pointer over the notch at the top of the screen, or press ⌥ ⌘ V. You can change the shortcut and the hover delay, or turn hover off, in Settings. To close the panel, move the pointer away or press Esc.

Where are the settings?

Click the gear at the top right of the panel, or the Brow icon in the menu bar.

My Mac has no notch

Brow works anyway: the panel opens from the top center of the screen. The same goes for external displays.

Can I hide or reorder sections?

Yes. In Settings, drag sections to reorder them, or switch off the ones you don't use.

Sections

A password I copied isn't in the clipboard history

That's on purpose. Brow doesn't save copies from password managers or items that apps mark as concealed.

How does the tote work?

Drag a file from Finder to the notch — the panel opens on the Tote — and drop it. To take it out, drag it to a folder, an email or a chat. Within the same disk the file is moved, to another disk it's copied; hold ⌥ to always copy. Brow keeps a link to the file, not a copy, so if you delete or move the file to the Trash, it disappears from the tote.

Screenshots don't appear

Open the Screenshots section and click Allow Access…, then pick the folder where macOS saves your screenshots (Desktop by default). You can check or change that folder with ⇧ ⌘ 5 → Options.

The calendar is empty

Brow needs access to Calendar. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Calendars and turn Brow on.

Music doesn't show what's playing

The first time, macOS asks whether Brow may control Music or Spotify — choose Allow. If you declined, turn Brow on in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Automation. Spotify tracks show the Spotify icon instead of album art, because Brow doesn't connect to the internet.

How does screen translation work?

Click Translate Screen. macOS shows its screen-sharing picker: point at a window and click Share This Window, or choose Share Entire Screen at the top right. Brow reads that picture once, on your Mac, and shows the translation on top. The very first translation after installing can take a little longer while macOS prepares text recognition.

A translation language is missing

Brow uses Apple's built-in translation. macOS may ask to download a language the first time you use it. You can manage languages in System Settings → General → Language & Region → Translation Languages.

Purchase

How do I install Brow on another Mac?

Open the App Store on that Mac, sign in with the same Apple Account, and download Brow from your purchases at no extra cost.

How do I ask for a refund?

Refunds are handled by Apple. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, and choose Brow Notch.

Removing Brow completely

  1. Quit Brow: Brow icon in the menu bar → Quit.
  2. If you turned on Launch at Login, turn it off first in Brow Settings.
  3. Drag Brow from Applications to the Trash.
  4. To also delete your clipboard history, cards and settings: in Finder press ⇧ ⌘ G, enter ~/Library/Containers, and move the Brow folder to the Trash.
